What is Laminate Teeth?

Laminate teeth, also known as porcelain veneers, aim to improve the appearance of patients’ teeth and correct visual imperfections. After our İzmir Porcelain Veneer applications, our patients achieve a more aesthetically pleasing smile and correct any flaws in their dental alignment. Made from thin layers of porcelain, laminate teeth are commonly referred to as “laminate veneers” among the public. Porcelain veneers can be used by all patients seeking smile design. However, they cannot be applied in cases where teeth misalignment is too severe. The porcelain laminate veneers are applied to the tooth surface after reducing the tooth thickness by approximately 0.3 mm to 0.7 mm. In this article, you can find all the details about our porcelain laminate applications and porcelain veneers.

What Are the Features of Laminate Teeth Application?

Laminate teeth treatment is ideal for all patients seeking a beautiful smile. We frequently apply porcelain veneer treatments to cover imperfections such as roughness, cracks, fractures, or discoloration on the tooth surface. Porcelain laminates enhance the appearance of our patients’ teeth, creating a natural and aesthetically pleasing look. Especially for maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the front teeth, we use laminate teeth applications.

When Is Laminate Teeth Application Performed?

Laminate teeth are applied in the following situations:

  • Patients who do not achieve the desired results from teeth whitening and continue to have discolored teeth.
  • Patients seeking an alternative to orthodontic treatment.
  • Patients with diastema (gaps between the front teeth).
  • Patients with short teeth due to wear or genetic factors.
  • Patients with eroded teeth due to erosion.
  • Patients whose teeth have lost their natural color due to coffee, tea, or smoking.
  • Patients with structural damage to their teeth due to trauma or injuries.
  • Patients with unsightly stains or deposits on their front teeth.
  • Patients who have lost part of their teeth due to trauma can benefit from laminate teeth treatments.

When Are Porcelain Veneers Not Applied?

Porcelain veneers are not recommended in the following situations:

  • Individuals with bruxism (habit of grinding or clenching teeth at night).
  • Patients with severe tooth misalignment or overlapping teeth.
  • Patients with dental decay or trauma that has led to tooth loss.
  • Patients with fluorosis (excessive fluoride causing discoloration) may struggle to adhere to the bonding agents used for porcelain veneers.

Steps of Laminate Veneer Application

Patients undergo a series of steps to receive porcelain veneers. First, a smile design is created to determine the most suitable style for the patient’s teeth and mouth structure. The patient’s oral and dental health is checked, and any existing oral diseases are diagnosed. The porcelain veneer treatment will not begin until all dental and gum issues are treated. If necessary, procedures such as curettage, fillings, and dental cleaning are performed, after which impressions of the patient’s teeth are taken. The surface of the teeth is lightly ground to even out the surface, and the molds are sent to the lab, where the porcelain veneers are prepared. Once ready, the veneers are bonded to the teeth using special adhesives.

Advantages of Laminate Teeth Application

The benefits of porcelain laminate veneers are as follows:

  • Creative and quick treatment: Patients achieve their new smile in about 7 days and can return to their social lives.
  • Natural appearance: The veneers are thin, ranging from 0.3 mm to 0.7 mm, ensuring a natural look.
  • Minimal tooth reduction: Only a small portion of the enamel is removed, minimizing sensitivity.
  • Durability: Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to color changes and are long-lasting.
  • Preservation of tooth sensation: The natural feel of the teeth remains intact, including the ability to taste and chew.
  • Strong adhesion: Once bonded, the veneers are highly durable and do not easily detach.
  • Light transmission: Due to their light-transmitting properties, porcelain veneers are indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Following the application, patients can continue to use their porcelain veneers for many years.
